NIPOC’s Fundraising

Network of Iranian-American Professionals in Orange County, NIPOC, did fundraising and donated the proceeds to the Flood Victims in Iran, through the American Red Cross.

he background story is Iran got a lot rain after years of drought. However, due to various reasons, they were not prepared for such an event. The devastation was major. The reporting in US media was minimal. Many Iranian professionals wanted to help fellow countrymen. NIPOC responded by adding fundraising to the Annual Persian picnic (13-Bedar). Donations came in large and small. Then, the question became how to send the fund legally, since there are limitations in both countries. Finally, the Board of Directors decided to have over the funds to the American Red Cross. They, in turn, will send the funds to the International Federation of Red Crescent, which will forward it to the local chapter.
